Girl on the Go: Writer’s Retreat

Hey everyone!

My schedule has not allowed me to post as often as I would like. I miss writing haiku. I miss dreaming of far off places to travel. And, I miss the interactiion with all my blogging friends.

I do have a post to share this week, and I hope to be able to start posting again very soon. Have a wonderful weekend!

This week my Girl on the Go adventure is taking me to a remote cabin for a writer’s retreat. Doesn’t that sound fun? I thought so. A long weekend with my journal, computer, coffee, wine and snacks!

Girl on the Go: Starting My Own Business

Hello!

Today I am adding an item that is more of a bucket list item, but it will keep me on the go.

Here’s background information that will make this post relevant. In 2011, I received my first freelance job with Rochester Women Magazine. I didn’t receive another freelance opportunity until 2013, but since then, I have had steady work.

I have always kicked around the idea of having a business, but I didn’t know what type of business. Several years ago, I talked to my mom about having a clothing shop, then it was art studio, then it was a combination of both. However, none of those ideas came to fruition.

With the steady work I have received as a writer, I started wondering if this would be a viable business for me, but I was still unsure of taking the steps to running a business even though the freelance work I have been doing is essentially “my business.”

Well, recently, I secured another freelance opportunity with a major client in the Rochester, Minnesota area. This client requires that I obtain an LLC  as well as carry business insurance.

So today, I am including starting my own business on my Girl on the Go list, and crossing it off my list. The Whispering Pen is no longer just a blog, it’s a Limited Liability Company.

Introducing, The Whispering Pen, LLC.

Today’s Haiku:

love of writing becomes work
and I am grateful

Does anyone else have an LLC? How do you manage your writing career?

Girl on the Go: Build my Dream Walk-In Closet

Hello Friends!

Today is the day! This is my 300th post! Thanks so much reading and following along! I appreciate you!

300posts

And now, for this week’s Girl on the Go, I have a DIY project! I want to build a walk-in closet. After weeks of posting dreamy travel locations that I want to visit, it’s time to post something I can accomplish sooner rather than later. The only place I am traveling to is the garage for construction and down the hall to the closet.

Some of you may be wondering why this is a bucket list item. Well, I love clothes and shoes and shopping. Always have. Hence the large walk-in closet to support my shopping habit.

Last week, hubby and I painted the walk-in closet, and this week we are working on the rolling storage racks. The final project is to add shelves to the small closet within the room for shoe storage, but we aren’t quite there yet.

Here’s a few shots of the clothing racks in progress:

corner joint for piping

Corner joint for 6′ long pipes.

joined pipes

wood with nice edging

Spruce that has a nice edge and rounded corners.

We are making two racks. They have two 6′ long pipes along the side and one 6′ pipe across the top. There will be a (spruce) wooden surface at the bottom situated on 4 casters for mobility.

I’ll post the finished project next week. Have a great weekend!

Is anyone working on any DIY projects?

Girl on the Go: San Antonio, Texas

Hi!

A fellow blogger, Crystel, commented on last week’s Girl on the Go: Austin. She said she was from San Antonio. So, that is this week’s addition.

Put San Antonio, Texas, on my Girl on the Go list. This is getting a little overwhelming. My list is multiplying faster than I can check them off. Oh well! We have to dream!

Girl on the Go: Alaska

We made it to Friday once again! I can’t believe we are half way through August.

Put Alaska on my Girl on the Go list. I continue to add major vacation ideas to my Girl on the Go list and haven’t been able to check off any lately. With our recent move, it’s made things a little more difficult to get away. But, I can always dream.
